Today Lupe Fiasco dropped his long-awaited mixtape, Friend of the People. Baring the subtitle “I Fight Evil”, the mixtape features 12 tracks of Lupe rapping over both traditional rap beats and dubstep. As the name would suggest, the album features much of Lupe’s politcal views, mentioning the current Occupy protests several times. The music is far different (and better) than Lasers, but not quite the Lupe of old, more of an evolutionary Lupe, possibly representing his next step in music. On first listen, my two favorite tracks are “SLR” and the M83 sampling “The End of the World”.
